HOTEL PRO FORMA
PERFORMANCE – MUSIC – VISUAL ARTS
FLAMMENWERFER is a music theatre performance by Hotel Pro Forma, inspired by the life and work of Swedish artist Carl Fredrik Hill (1849–1911). After moving to Paris to pursue his artistic ambitions, Hill was diagnosed with schizophrenia and spent the rest of his life largely isolated, producing thousands of drawings and paintings shaped by his shifting reality, visions and imagination.
Directed by Marie Dahl and created with artists including Blixa Bargeld, Nils Frahm, Henrik Vibskov, Jesper Kongshaug and Magnus Pind, the production brings together live music, vocal performance, video, light and scenography.
On stage, Blixa Bargeld performs alongside the award-winning vocal ensemble IKI. New compositions and texts are combined with music by Nils Frahm, while large-scale projections of Hill’s work create a constantly shifting visual landscape.
FLAMMENWERFER was created in co-production with Malmö Live Concert Hall, in collaboration with Malmö Art Museum, and premiered in March 2024. It has since been presented at the Aarhus Festival and the Royal Danish Theatre in Copenhagen.
