Music and choreography
A dancer moves slowly with someone, asking questions as they go. Profound, surprising stories spill out – memories the body has kept stored for years. Stories about the ocean. About being a refugee. About climate grief. About beauty, and about chaos. About roses, or construction dust. These stories become songs.
We Don’t Need the Sea to Drown holds personal narratives, ancestral histories, and ecological memory inside one embodied composition. Drip irrigation bags, manipulated live onstage, release water onto tuned metal bowls, phasing slowly into polyrhythm.
Audiences walk beneath, inside, and through a choir. Dancers move with randomized polyrhythmic water drips, like dancing to rain. Tuned water glasses nestle into the groove. Heavy objects spin. Heartbeats sound close. Breath, conjoined and amplified.
This is a fully realised, tour-ready work. Its score, choreography, and libretto are set yet flexible if the presenter wishes to customise aspects of the performance.
