25 years after its creation, Jimmy, créature de rêve returns in its original, complete form – a cult classic of contemporary theatre and the work that launched Marie Brassard’s solo career and her company Infrarouge.
“Do the dead dream? And if they dream… Could you please dream about me again?”
In the 1950s, Jimmy, a gay hairdresser, comes to life in the dream of a homophobic American general. In his barbershop in the heart of New York, he meets Mitchell, a soldier with whom he falls deeply in love. At the precise moment he is about to kiss the man he loves for the first time, the heart of the dreaming general stops beating. Jimmy remains suspended in that precise moment, filled with a feeling of pure pleasure.
Fifty years later, time starts moving again and Jimmy comes back to life, but, to his despair, imprisoned in the dreams of a Montreal actress who falls passionately in love with him. In the actress’s baroque, erotic and absurd dreams, his face and body transform, metamorphosing him into a strange creature of uncertain gender. His deepest desire is to break free from the logic of the dreams that hold him captive, so that he can finally find his way back to his lost love.
