Theatre - Dance - Music

"After 20 years of making work, I now want to start a new chapter. Open the toolbox, dig deep, intensify, magnify and discover joyful vibrations” — James Thierrée

Working with an unconstrained musical ensemble, James Thierrée welcomes us to ROOM, on a journey of discovery with many drawers and surprises, on a voyage into an unconventional and incredible universe. A joyous, wild and wonderful ROOM where anything can happen, filled with live music, mechanical marvels, humour, movement finesse, his signature theatrical language and James Thierrée himself conducting.

ROOM is a space with high ceilings, thick walls and creaky floors. A white box. A raw, inhabited place. Thirteen musicians and dancers are on stage. These strange and unique artists come together to push the boundaries of the interdependence of the instrument and the body. In front of the audience. Exposed. To the core. They occupy the time. The space.

Born of this innermost desire, ROOM has been designed as a luminous and mysterious room. A call to explore and play. An invitation to an extraordinary encounter. It connects artists and spectators as only such festivities know how.

"A place. A vast place.

An open, panoramic view. A snapshot of a work. A performance in wandering spirals about art, the body and the INSTRUMENT. In the room.

A room where everything is possible, where everything blends and fragments... Into a concentrated chaos. ROOM is overturned.

Collision, reverberation, white magic... Everything settles. Inside, a chamber orchestra is rehearsing.

Lost in the space, the vertiginous music of the brass band explores phantasmagorical tunnels and raging pools. Where does the end begin… Where does the beginning end?

Forbidden bodies and notes merge, piece by piece, as the eighth notes reach their breaking point. Breathing the walls.

A leg appears playfully and knits like a ticking clock. Then the room chuckles and disappears.

Before slowly vanishing. Ours for the taking."

James Thierrée
