A choreographic company
For more than twenty years, Christian and François Ben Aïm have been developing a singular body of work, rich in poetry, fraternal connection and a constant dialogue between disciplines. Trained in dance, physical theatre and circus, the two brothers reunited in 1997 to create À l’abri du regard des hommes, avant d’aller mourir ailleurs, a dance-theatre piece that marked the beginning of their collaboration. Since then, they have created nearly thirty works, drawing inspiration from literary, musical and visual sources and bringing different artistic disciplines together on stage, including En plein cœur, Valse en trois temps, The Lightness of Storms, Burn, Rebellious Hearts, Mirages – Boreal Souls, Arise and All in Jest.
Their dance is driven by an uncompromising energy and an intimate relationship to movement and presence. Rather than proposing a discourse, their work offers an experience, a “crossing” that the performer undertakes before our eyes, with complete commitment and sincerity. This demanding choreographic language is accompanied by a finely crafted compositional approach, creating imaginary worlds that draw on dreams, the wonder of fairy tales and invisible realities.
Through dance, theatre, music and visual arts, the Ben Aïm brothers explore fraternity, desire, emancipation and the ambiguity of social norms. Their works invite spectators into unstable and poetic worlds, where certainties are questioned and transformed, creating a space for shared experience and renewed possibilities.
