SITE SPECIFIC PERFORMANCE
Constellations is a promenade performance taking place at night in nature. Small groups of spectators follow a trail, stopping at a series of campfires, each tended by a “Guardian” — an artist, writer, musician or performance artist — who hosts an experience and exchange with the audience.
Inspired by the ancient human ritual of gathering around a fire, the project creates spaces for storytelling, listening, memory and encounter. Moving through the landscape from one fire to another, audiences experience a series of intimate encounters that connect the present with something more elemental and universal.
Created by Brett Bailey during the pandemic, Constellations is designed to bring artists, local communities and audiences together in an open-air setting, with each edition involving local artists and thinkers.
