Coco Karol is a dancer, choreographer, educator who creates cross-disciplinary performance works concerned with meaning-making and embodied memory. She uses dance as a form of ethnography, and developed a methodology to interview people while moving with them. A former member of Misnomer Dance Theater, she has had an expansive dance career that includes being featured in Björk’s video “Wanderlust,” and performing with choreographers such as Christopher Williams and Yoshiko Chuma. Her own choreography and immersive, community-inclusive collaborations with Sxip Shirey have premiered internationally to great acclaim.
Sxip Shirey is a composer, producer and sound artist based in New York City. He is known for surprising and innovative instrumentation and object-oriented compositions. His orchestral suite “A Heaven in the Streets” was featured in Gravity and Other Myth’s “Louder” at the Sydney Opera House in 2026. He is the composer and music director for the acclaimed circus production LIMBO, which toured internationally from 2015 to 2024, seasons included, Sydney Opera House, London’s Southbank Center and Madonna’s 57th Birthday Day party! Shirey’s ongoing immersive choral works, The Gauntlet, developed with artistic partner Coco Karol, have been performed at Rockefeller Center, The Sydney Opera House, the Fisher Center at Bard College and for NYU Abu Dhabi Arts Center.
